Project ID: CTEDD 022-08
Author(s): Andrea Hicks, University of Wisconsin - Madison
Co-Author(s): Soyoung Ahn, University of Wisconsin - Madison
CTEDD Grant Cycle: 2022 General RFP
Transportation contributes 29% of annual greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, with light duty vehicles, such as those used by commuters, contributing 59% of transportation related emissions. There is significant potential to empower commuters to consider the environmental impact of their mode choice when selecting among different options.

Transit, shared mobility, and vehicle electrification serve as major enablers of transportation decarbonization. Several shared mobility have been offered in the US and abroad, with a major focus on implementation on university campuses and at airports. However, combined offerings of shared and electric vehicles providing on-demand service rather than route-based service are still forthcoming.

Development an Immersive Training Platform for Roadway Construction Workers using Virtual and Augmented Reality Technologies

Development of a Monitoring System for Driver Readiness in Prolonged Automated Driving

June 22, 2022
Project ID: CTEDD 022-04
Author(s): Shuchisnigdha Deb, University of Texas at Arlington
Co-Author(s): Chen Kan, University of Texas at Arlington; Anurag Pande, California Polytechnic State University; David A. Noyce, University of Wisconsin – Madison
CTEDD Grant Cycle: 2022 General RFP
Vehicle automation technology is being designed to handle driving tasks for human drivers. However, this technology is not expected to handle all possible driving conditions successfully in the foreseeable future. The system can fail anytime and may require drivers to take over control within a short period of time. Additionally, automation can induce boredom, daydreaming, and drowsiness due to driver inactivity and can worsen driver readiness to take over control of the vehicle.
